History:

Lumen Christi (Light of Christ) was named by the school community in August 2000 after opening as Point Cook Catholic Primary School on Thursday 27 January 2000. The school name and motto ‘Let Your Light Shine’ encourages all members of the school community to give their best at all times. The school is situated on 3 hectares opposite the Sanctuary Lakes Golf Course in Point Cook Road. Lumen Christi is the third school to open in the parish of Laverton and was built to cope with the increasing demand for Catholic education in the Seabrook/Point Cook area of the parish.

Description:

Staff, parents and children are developing a strong faith and social community in association with the learning community of Lumen Christi. Within a very short time of opening, the parents and friends of Lumen Christi have worked hard to ensure that the grounds reflect a welcoming environment and their major goal since opening has been to provide suitable playground and outdoor equipment for all students.

In 2002, Lumen Christi had 235 students over nine classrooms. 2002 also saw Stage 2 of our Building project funded by local and Federal money. During this building stage we added a multi-purpose hall, kitchen and storage areas, as well as Part 1 of a classroom block that contains three learning areas, indoor toilets and kitchen area. Stage 3 Building Stage was undertaken and completed during 2007 and the scope of works included 3 learning areas, a Sports Stadium, Teacher car parking and street parking for drop-off/pick-up purposes in Kirkstone Rd. The focus of development in 2008 was on our outside recreation area for students, which includes a regulation junior soccer pitch as well as other play areas all using artificial turf. This was a long-awaited acquisition for our school community. 2009 saw all schools receiving unexpected monies through the Federal Government BER Program. Through these projects we have seen the access way from Point Cook Road extended through to Kirkstone Rd to ease car congestion and the construction of eight learning areas, a library, theatrette and computer lab. These started in June/July 2009 and were completed in October 2010.

Features:

We attempt to carefully structure grades so that we are able to accommodate families that move into our catchment area during the year. It is our aim to enrol children with the minimum of disruption to existing classes. Each year we have steadily increased our enrolment of students which sees us nearly at our projected maximum over 28 permanent grades – 4 classes at each grade level.
