History:

Established in Central Melton in 1976 and was the first Catholic School in the area.

Description:

As a Catholic School, St. Dominic's Vision Statement reflects our beliefs within the Catholic Ethos which are based on the Gospel values of peace, justice and love.

We are a community of learners, taking action learning together.

We believe our community is a good place to live, work and play. It is a community where everyone is engaged in a journey of life long learning.

We endeavour to provide an education that recognises every individual's spiritual, social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs.

We actively promote and nurture:
q The Good News through Scripture, Prayer, Liturgical Celebrations and example
q Each person's sense of his/her own giftedness
q A partnership, based on respect, honesty and trust between staff, parents and students
q The richness of our diverse society
q An openness to the changing face of our community and our world.

The school offers a comprehensive curriculum including Mathematics, English, Science, Technology, Studies of Society and the Environment, the Arts, Physical Education and Religious Education. All programs are sequential and, where possible, curriculum areas are integrated using progressive teaching practises. Active involvement of the children and their parents in the learning process is encouraged and practised.

The Library Resource Centre is computerised and centrally located in the school's main building. It serves as a focus for teaching and learning. Central Resource Management allows all resources to circulate throughout the school, meeting the demands and requirements of its users.

Students have access to Information Technology in all classrooms and the Learning Resource Centre. The school has an operating computer network (linked back to a curriculum server and CD stacker) throughout all rooms. All resources are current and used by staff and students.

The Parish Priest, as manager of the school, encourages and supports the development of school policies and curriculum as well as making himself available to the children, particularly through the Sacramental program and Liturgical celebrations.

A Consultative School Development Group comprising of Area Co-ordinators, Deputy Principal, Religious Education Co-ordinator, two elected members of staff and the Principal co-ordinate the review and formation of school policy, curriculum and professional development of the staff.

A School Advisory Council, comprising of parents and staff is also established and contributes to the development of school policy. Fundraising, Parent Welcoming, Canteen and Maintenance and Grounds Improvement Committees are sub-committees of the School Advisory Council.

A Student Representative Council is active and gives students the opportunity to be involved in a leadership role and the decision making process.

Features:

Teaching and Learning:
We believe children are most able to learn in an environment which is happy, comfortable, secure, non- threatening, challenging and stimulating.

To achieve this children are in multi-age groupings and our curriculum is structured in such a way that each child experiences success.

Our Philosophy:
All children are individuals. We acknowledge that they learn in different ways and at different times. Our expectations for each child are measured against the potential and ability of each individual.

OUR EXPECTATIONS ARE DIFFERENT FOR EACH CHILD.
