History:

St John’s Primary School in Frankston East opened on 5 February 1967 with an enrolment of 24 students and Mrs Margaret Carruthers as sole teacher and principal. From these humble beginnings St John’s has developed and flourished under the leadership of four principals, Sr Kevin Nunan FCJ (1970–1980), Sr Peter Wilson FCJ (1980–1988), Mrs Dana Morison (1989–1998) and Paul Hartin (1998–).

Description:

St John’s Primary School is situated in the Bayside City of Frankston and has an enrolment of 260 students who are mainly English-speaking and come from socio-economically diverse backgrounds.

The school consists of two main buildings linked by a covered walkway. One block is a two-storey split-level building containing a library, an art room, a music room and a kid's kitchen. On the upper level are 10 classrooms, specialist rooms, information technology areas and a meeting room. The St John's Performance Centre provides the second main building and forms a large hall, a school canteen, a physical education area and a performing arts area.

Native trees and shrubs are planted on boundary areas and the banks separating upper and lower playgrounds. A program of beautification and landscaping improvements has been undertaken by children, parents and staff over the past few years. On the northern side of the upper classrooms a large area has been covered to provide shade.
