History:

St John Vianney’s School was established in 1960 as part of the fledgling community of Springvale North. Fr Noel Coghlan, the parish priest of St Joseph’s, Springvale, at that time, established the church/school community. The Brigidine Sisters took over the running of the school in 1962.

Springvale North became a parish in its own right in 1964. The Oblate Fathers took over the parish at that time and serve the community to this present day.

As the area grew and developed, so did St John Vianney’s School. Enrolments peaked at 840 students in the late 1970s. The school had grown from a single church/classroom block into a multi-classroom facility. A magnificent Administration and Library facility was added in 1978.
Although enrolments have declined in more recent years, in keeping with an older, established area, they have settled now in the low to mid 400s and show signs of regeneration.
St John Vianney’s remains a vital place of education supported by a strong parish community. It boasts a highly diverse multicultural population and reflects a strong Catholic ethos through its relationships and programs.

Description:

St John Vianney’s is a Catholic primary school serving the community of Springvale North. The school shares the site at 23 Police Road, Mulgrave, with St John Vianney’s church, which provides the school with a key focus for liturgical celebrations.

The school consists of four large classroom blocks, with an impressive, centrally located library and administration block. A school/parish hall is also part of the complex. This facility is used extensively by the school and parish alike.

The playing area is expansive. It consists of asphalted areas and a large well-grassed oval. Adventure playgrounds are situated at each end of the oval. A basketball court and basketball rings add to the diversity of the playing/sporting opportunities the school facility offers the children.
