St Mary’s School, Mount Evelyn stomp group.A group of boys at St Mary’s School, Mount Evelyn, have been stamping their feet for the last six months, and they couldn’t be happier.

The boys are the latest participants in the school’s Stomp group. Using their feet and hands to create a rhythm, the Year 5 and 6 students have been giving up their lunchtime to rehearse the complicated choreography. ‘It’s been a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it’, said one of the students. ‘You get to be part of something different, and it’s good for making new friendships.’

The students continue rehearsing even when they’re away from school. ‘I practise everywhere. My family tells me to practise outside, but I like how it sounds on the timber floors.’

The group will be performing at the school’s end-of-year concert and at Catholic Education Melbourne’s Celebration of Principalship in October.
