11 October 2017 Sophie (centre) on the set of Mustangs FC on ABC ME

Today is the United Nations International Day of the Girl and one girl who will be celebrating is Sophie, a Year 6 student at St Joseph’s Primary School in Boronia.

Earlier this year, Sophie auditioned and was successful in obtaining a small role in the new 13-episode TV series Mustangs FC, ‘a goal-kicking comedy drama about girls who abandon the sidelines and start their football club’s first all-girls team. Against the odds, they’ll stand united and overcome any challenge the club, the boys or the opposition can throw at them, all while wrestling with what it means to be a girl today’.

Sophie’s mum Gayle said, ‘We are so proud of Sophie who rose to the challenge and thrilled that she was really embraced and valued on set by all the cast and crew. A wonderful example of seeing Sophie’s ABILITY not her disABILITY!’

The world premiere of Mustangs FC will be on ABC Me on 11 October 2017 at 5 pm. A special International Day of the Girl Celebration with a live screening of Mustangs FC will be held today at Federation Square 5–7.30pm.
