The Queens Baton Relay passed through the west last week on its way to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, and a group of Braybrook students helped provide the soundtrack.

A Caroline Chisholm Catholic College band was one of two local acts to perform in Footscray as the runners passed the baton on.

College director of music Karen Heath said it was a thrill for the students to showcase their skills.

It was fantastic. The kids had a great time, they sounded amazing and the whole set-up was super impressive, Ms Heath said.
 

The six-piece RnB/rock group has been together for just over 12 months, and was hand-picked for the baton event by the school.

It performed three songs;

Zombie by The Cranberries, Redbone by Childish Gambino, and Jennifer by Trinidad Cardona. The headlining act on the day was Aria-nominated Melbourne rock band Kingswood, which needed a helping hand from the St Albans band.

The band lent Kingswood a piano pedal to replace their broken one, and received a surprise in the week following the performance.

'When they mailed back the pedal they put a note in there to congratulate our kids and say how impressed they were with their performance, which was very kind of them,' Ms Heath said.
