Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria’s Tidy Towns & Cities Sustainability AwardA commitment to increasing local biodiversity has led to an award for the environmental team at St Anne’s School, Sunbury.

The school’s Pollinator’s Corridor project has won a 2023 Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Tidy Towns & Cities Sustainability Award. The project involved the school’s environmental team addressing the impact of biodiversity by reintroducing diverse indigenous species specific to their municipality. As the plants established themselves, the team saw an array of pollinators appearing including blue-banded bees, endangered ant species and native butterflies. The project is being expanded to create a larger corridor, incorporating more native plants, habitat rocks and a pathway to encourage student engagement.

Emma White, Programs and Partnership Manager with Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria, visited the school to present the award to Sustainability Leader Jo Hannan on behalf of the St Anne’s School environmental team.

Now in its 41st year, the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria’s Tidy Towns & Cities Sustainability Awards recognise, celebrate and share environmental achievements and strong community spirit across Victoria. The St Anne’s School community remains dedicated to educating students and families, fostering awareness about the vital importance of biodiversity in their local environment.
