29 October 2019

More than 2,000 Catholic school students and teachers gathered last Wednesday at St Patrick’s Cathedral for the annual Children’s Mission Mass.

The Mass, now in its 30th year, forms part of the month of Mission recognised every October. The event also coincides with Children’s Day, which was celebrated in Australia on 23 October this year.

Victorian Director of Catholic Mission, Kevin Meese, spoke to the gathered congregation before the Mass to remind them of the great work of Catholic Mission and the vital help provided to vulnerable and disadvantaged children in third world countries.

Bishop Mark Edwards was Principal Celebrant with Vocations Director Fr David Cartwright concelebrating. Bishop Mark reminded those in the Church that God is constantly calling younger people to the mission of priest, brother or nun.

In his homily based around the famous parable of the Good Samaritan, Bishop Mark urged young people to always be on the lookout to help others as the Good Samaritan did – to ‘encounter’ those in need by showing real compassion for them as people.
