Professional Learning in Leadership Development

Catholic Education Melbourne offers programs for leaders at every stage of the Leadership Continuum. The programs provide flexible learning and combine training and capacity-building. 

Professional Learning programs and initiatives are underpinned by the Leadership Standards Framework (see the forthcoming revision of Leadership in Catholic Schools: Development Framework and Standards of Practice), which identifies the different strengths, needs and aspirations of leaders at key stages in their careers.

Emerging Leaders Program

This program is designed to support and develop teachers who are at the beginning of their leadership journey.

An aspirational program that fosters the participant's growth as a leader within the context of self, school and system.

Women's Middle Leadership Program

This program is designed to assist women in establishing effective key leadership behaviours and mindsets critical at a middle leadership level.

Women's Advanced Leadership Program

This program focuses on the interpersonal and behavioural dynamics associated with a senior leadership position. Participation in the program has the potential to create powerful, lifelong professional networks.

Pathway to Principalship

Pathway to Principalship has been designed to provide teaching professionals with targeted support as they progress through their career — from the earliest stage of their leadership, through to applying for principalship in a Catholic school.

Pathway to Principalship — Phase 1

Phase 1 focuses on the development of middle leaders who have a formal position of leadership within their school and aspire to be principals later in their career.

Pathway to Principalship — Phase 2 (for aspirant principals)

This learning opportunity focuses on the development of deputy and assistant principals intending to apply for principalship in the near future.

Building High-performance School Leadership Teams

This program has been created for principals and their leadership teams, and aims to highlight and develop personal and collective insight and skills. This will assist team members to develop the capacity to recognise, appreciate and capitalise on the diversity within their team.

P—12 Principal Induction Process

This process is coordinated across Catholic Education Melbourne to provide a range of initiatives designed to support principals in their early years of principalship.

Critical Quarter (CQ) and Critical Quarter Just In Time

This program provides expert and targeted professional learning to newly appointed principals prior to and in the first 90 days of their first principalship.

Principal Wellbeing Program

This professional learning session aims to support principals to better understand and proactively manage their day-to-day health and wellbeing so as to be more effective role models within their schools.
