History:

Good Samaritan Catholic Primary School opened on 30 January 1996. We commenced with 39 students, three teachers, a part-time school secretary and a principal. There was a definite need to develop a Catholic primary school between Dallas and Craigieburn. We are the second school in the parish of Our Lady’s, Craigieburn, and our catchment area is Roxburgh Park and the northern end of Meadow Heights. Our current enrolment is around 680 students in 25 classes. There are four classes of Years Prep, 1, 2 and 3 and three classes of Years 4, 5 and 6. We now have 51 full-time and part-time staff.

Description:

Good Samaritan is a coeducational primary school offering a sound Catholic education. The main building includes administration offices, a staff room, a resource centre (library), a kitchen, interview/meeting rooms, a learning centre, a Reading Recovery room and a sick bay with a toilet with disabled access.

Presently there are eight permanent classrooms, sharing four Information and Communication Technology (ICT) labs and 16 relocatable classrooms all equipped with their own ICT, one of which is our Japanese room. We have a chapel and a school hall which houses our canteen and before & after school care facilities.

There are connecting pathways, as well as a concrete courtyard the size of the main core building, with courts for basketball, volleyball, t-ball and bat tennis. There are two adventure playgrounds and a huge sandpit for the junior grades.

All classrooms are airconditioned and heated and are very secure, with appropriate high fencing around all school buildings. Entrance to the school, during school hours, is only through the main doors. We also have a southern entry/exit carpark, northern and eastern entry/exit gates and our own soccer field. This is all on nine acres.

Features:

Presently, Good Samaritan is a large growing Catholic primary school in the heart of Roxburgh Park. It is a very personal school where communication and interaction between staff, students and parents is most important. For a growing school, we are very well equipped and staffed and our resources are being extended every year. All classes are straight grades and are working very successfully. Our specialist programs include Religious Education (all Sacraments), CLaSS (Children's Literacy Success Strategy), SINE (Success in Numeracy Education), Reading Recovery, Library, LOTE (Japanese), Physical Education, PMP, Special Education, 'You Can Do It' and Art and Craft.

We also have a school counsellor three days a week, many integration aides, a Chaldean aide and a New Arrivals' teacher. The students participate in inter-school and annual sports, have the opportunity to be a School or Sport captain, be a member of the SRC or School Safety Club. Parents are encouraged to be involved in their child's education as much as is possible. We also provide a wide range of programs for our parents' education.
