History:

St. Joseph the Worker School commenced operation in 1978 and quickly grew to a two stream school from Prep to Grade Six. The school to date has been built in three stages, the latest stage being completed in 1986. Through the labour of many parents over the years, the school grounds have been landscaped and provide a very pleasant environment. The school soon became a vital part of St. Joseph the Worker Parish. The school and parish communities have always worked in close co-operation with one another through the Parish Pastoral Council and other joint committees.

Description:

St. Joseph the Worker School reflects the larger community with the predominant culture being Italian (90%) With most of the children being either first, second or third generation Italians, they have strong personal and community links to their cultural background socially, religiously and linguistically. The remaining children are small representatives of the Anglo Australian, Lebanese, Maltese and Greek cultures. The children are well behaved, co-operative and generally well cared for.

The staff comprises an experienced, dedicated and hardworking team of professionals. There are 14 classroom teachers and specialist teachers in the areas of LOTE (Italian), Library/Info Tech, ESL, PE, and DSC Music. They are greatly assisted by two School Officers one of whom also works as an integration aide with our special needs children. Together they provide an educational program based on an integrated interdisciplinary curriculum. With the exception of Mathematics and English, all subjects are taught within the context of a term topic which is planned in teams. Religious Education plays a key role in this process. The parish and the school work in close collaboration to ensure an effective Sacramental Program is implemented, one which links children and their parents from both the parish school and other local government schools. Parents are actively involved both in classroom activities and parent committees. The various school committees at St Joseph the Worker School include Parents & Friends Association, Safety House Committee, After School Care Committee which all operate under the auspices of the Education Board.

Features:

All of the above plus an accepting community endeavouring to live our Vision Statement, i.e. to inspire: the proclamation of God’s love, the growth to wholeness, a love of life and learning and unconditional respect for self, others and the world.
