History:
During 1949 support grew within the West Essendon area for the establishment of a chapel. This was established and the community soon formed. As the population grew, the need also arose for a school. The original school was blessed and opened by Bishop Fox on the 9 March 1958. It consisted of a three-roomed building that catered for 74 students who were taught by two sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary – Mother John Bosco and Sister Paula.
Our Parish Priest, Fr John Spillane, arrived in January 1987 and has maintained a high profile within the school through classroom visits and staff meetings. Over the years West Essendon / Aberfeldie has seen an increase in the number of young families moving into the area and there are now over 230 families in the school with a student population of around 350.
Description:
Our Lady of the Nativity School consists of four buildings that incorporate an administration block, classrooms, library, parish hall and multipurpose room. All of the buildings have been refurbished and one has recently been extended to a second storey. The grounds include an oval, adventure playground, basketball and volleyball courts and a quiet area. Parish facilities include the Church and tennis courts. The school is well serviced by public transport and is in close proximity to a number of recreation facilities, kindergartens and secondary schools.
