History:

Holy Family Primary School, Bell Park, has a long history of association with the Sisters of Mercy. In 2000 the Sisters handed over the administration of the school to a lay principal. The school has been through extensive refurbishment, which has allowed the school to look to the future. Recently, a large multipurpose room has been a welcome addition. Holy Family is fortunate to have a strong history of a large culturally diverse community, where all people are valued.

Description:

At Holy Family we value the individuality of all children and therefore structure our school to allow for the development of each student. Our learning and teaching practice reflects this. 'Experience' is central to the basis of our students' learning and is essential for challenging each child. The school has 280 students who work in 11 class groups. The teachers of each section plan and work together in order to ensure good education of the students.

Features:

We at Holy Family believe that we are a welcoming community which provides opportunities for all to be actively involved members in a mutually supportive way. We look to the future in our development of information and communication technologies (ICT) and our students experience ICTin their daily learning environment. The areas of study covered by specialist teachers include Reading Recovery, physical education, library and LOTE (Croatian or Italian). The senior students are involved in interschool debating, the national Tournament of Minds, the international Maths and English competitions and a number of in-school and after-school sporting activities.

There is a large playground with plenty of sealed bitumen areas, as well as a large grassed area – enough for a soccer oval plus other areas – that gives the children plenty of space to move. A dedicated group of ladies are further developing the already established gardens and beautifying the school environment.
