History:

St Margaret Mary’s School began in 1954 with 76 students who were accommodated in the church/school building in Reed Street. In 1958, a spacious new building was commenced. In 1998, an extensive refurbishment program was undertaken to upgrade and extend our school facilities.

The next stage of upgrading our facilities was the construction of a multipurpose gathering and learning space and an enhancement of our school grounds in 2004 and 2005.

Description:

St Margaret Mary’s school is a coeducational primary school with an enrolment of 163 students. It is located on the corner of Hudson Road and Arras Street in Spotswood, an inner western suburb nestled at the base of the Westgate Bridge between Yarraville and Newport. Our school is located in a residential pocket of this suburb, which, because of its close proximity to the central business district of Melbourne, appears to be growing in its appeal as a place for families to make their home. Our school community is greatly enriched by the variety of gifts and experiences pertaining to the multicultural diversity of our school population.

Features:

We are all most appreciative of the ways in which families and school work together for the best opportunities for all. The children in our school are enthusiastic about learning and about being involved in all that school life has to offer. Where possible, parents are involved in class/school activities, working bees and social activities. We offer specialist areas in the Arts, Information Technology, Italian and PE. After school care is available locally, with transport organised.
