It was not until 1941 that the parish of St Vincent de Paul, North Essendon, was established and in 1943 the area was renamed Strathmore. The school has undergone seven building program stages since then.

After an initial enrolment of 40 students in 1937, the school population peaked in 1960 with 600 students in classes of 80 to 90 students and with 11 teaching staff.
