History:

The College was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in July 1889 as a co-educational secondary school with 24 pupils. In 1907 the school moved to 94 High Street becoming Sacred Heart Ladies' College, returning to being co-educational in 1973. Facilities have continually expanded to meet the changing needs of education. Throughout its history the College has enjoyed the support of the community with an active Parents' & Friends' Association.


Description:

Sacred Heart is a co-educational 7–12 College with approximately 600 students, set in 20 acres with established facilities, sports grounds and gardens. The College has a tradition of quality education and strives for the total development of the human and spiritual faculties of its members. In response, they are inspired to commit themselves to serve God and others to make the world a better place in which to live.


Features:

Continuing the provision of over 100 years of Mercy Education in the Macedon Ranges, the College seeks to celebrate and proclaim the Mercy tradition which is both its foundation and vision. Courses offer students a breadth and depth of academic, sporting and social experiences in caring for the whole person in a Christian environment. Features of the curricular and co-curricular programs include: Extensive RE and Pastoral Care provision including Community Service and Duke of Edinburgh programs; a solid grounding in English, Mathematics, Science & Humanities; emphasis on the development of Computer Literacy for all students; expanding Technology and Vocational Education & Training opportunities, Pursuit of Excellence program including VCE Enhancement Studies; Special Education, Careers and Counselling support staff provide individual attention; Outdoor Education (camps, VCE) program designed to develop each student's self esteem and confidence; structured PE and Sports program; Arts and LOTE (Japanese & French) studies in Years 7–12. Academic Scholarships are awarded annually at Years 7 and 11. College staff are dedicated professionals who are actively involved in current educational developments.
