Enrolment policies and procedures have been developed to assist Catholic primary and secondary schools and their families understand the enrolment process.

In keeping with the concern to ensure that Catholic schools are accessible for all Catholic families, the Catholic Education Melbourne Policy promotes a consistent and transparent approach to the establishment and implementation of local school enrolment policies.

Each school has a different enrolment process so it is best to visit the website of the school you are considering to learn about their enrolment processes and practices. Most schools hold Open Days, giving families the opportunity to visit and inspect the school environment and facilities.

Parents and carers are encouraged to contact their nearest Catholic school to find out about the enrolment procedures and closing dates for applications and the forms and paperwork required to complete the enrolment application. Documentation that may be required includes:

  • birth certificate
  • baptismal certificate
  • immunisation records
  • any previous school reports
  • visa for newly arrived refugees and immigrants (and passport for anyone on a Visa)
  • information/assessments for students with diverse learning needs .
It must be noted that schools may not always be able to accept every family who applies due to availability of places. Many schools have waiting lists if this occurs, particularly secondary schools.
