Holy Eucharist School, St Albans South, was swamped with books to support indigenous literacy.

With the generosity of the school community, books were collected for sale to students and families at bargain prices. The school’s community room was buzzing as students browsed hundreds of old and new titles available for purchase.

Junior Literacy Coordinator Leanne Bonello organised the swap as part of the school’s commitment to social justice awareness and action. It’s one way that we can help to address social disadvantage’, she said. ‘Reading opens up doorways to learning, and supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation helps to create a trajectory for better literacy outcomes for all Australians’.

The other benefit is adding to book collections at homes. ‘Our students are excited about books and reading, so to have more books available at home while supporting indigenous literacy is a win-win. It’s been great to see them sharing their love of literature while supporting such an important cause’.
