St Anthony’s School, Noble Park, Specialist Enrichment Teacher, Ellis Warrener, has proudly led our school through to the final stages of the RobocupStudent team from St Anthony's Noble Park in costume for their Robocup Dance performance National Competition.

The RoboCup Junior Dance Competition is an integration of Science, Technology and the Arts, where participants program their robots to dance to music. The competitors are encouraged to decorate their entries and to motorise robot limb movements, to give their robots real personality.

RoboCup Junior Dance Competition can be approached in a number of ways. Some previous ideas include robots dancing together in tightly choreographed teams, students interacting with their robots while dancing, students creating their own music to dance to and students telling a story while the robots act it out to the music.

The Dance Competition is real team effort where students can design their own t-shirts, prepare themselves for the team interview and create their costumes, on top of the programming and building.

This year, St Anthony's Level 3/4 Robotics students took first and second place in the Regional RoboCup Dance Competition held at Sacré Cœur. It was very pleasing to see that great teaching, creativity, intelligence and problem solving can triumph over bigger budgets.

The students have since gone on to compete at state level, at the University of Melbourne. Our teams continued to amaze and inspire with the girls team, comprised of Carolyn Prakash, Erica Dixon-Mason, Tharley Nguyen and Tiffany Lam, taking second place.

The team went on to compete at the RoboCup Junior Australian National Championships on 17 and 18 September in Sydney.
