Every second year, St Peter Apostle School, Hoppers Crossing, competes in Wakakirri – Australia’s largest Story–Dance Festival, involving over 20,000 students across every State and Territory each year.
 

St Peter Apostle School was awarded Best Adapted Story in Victoria and went on to compete in the State Championships at Hamer Hall. At the end of the night, the school was awarded best story in Division 2 and as a result, will now compete Story of the Year in the National Competition on 19 October.

St Peter Apostle’s Story-Dance was an adaptation of Mr Huff, written by Anna Walker, and awarded Picture Story Book of the Year in 2016.

Teacher Debbie Wright explains, ‘We chose to tell the story, because it contained a concept that our children could relate to; a child who battles through fears and anxieties but who, through persistence learns to battle those fears and learns how to cope with them in their everyday life’.

One of the judging panel, James Elmer, said the school’s Story–Dance had ‘a beautiful and clear message, clear scenes with great direction and a beautiful ending’.
