Students from Lumen Christi School, Point Cook.15 November 2019

For the second year running, Lumen Christi School, Point Cook, has been named MS Readathon’s top fundraising school in Australia.

Collectively, the participating students raised close to $25,000 by reading as many books as they could during August to help children who have a parent living with MS.

Three of the school’s students made the top-10 list for highest individual fundraisers in Australia:

  • Makaira Muscat was in first place and raised $9,005.88
  • Nicolas O’Brien-Cetinic was in fourth place and raised $4,340.12
  • Aarya Valera was in tenth place and raised $2,236.88.

Makaira has been participating in the MS Readathon since she started at Lumen Christi School seven years ago. She has raised more than $45,000 over the years and inspired many of her fellow students to become involved. When Makaira first started, there were only a handful at the school participating, but this year 93 students took on the challenge.

A representative of MS Readathon visited Lumen Christi School in recognition of its noteworthy achievement, awarding medals, certificates and prizes to eight of the students for their significant fundraising efforts. The school also received $500 worth of books and a $500 voucher for more books.
