St Justin’s School, Wheelers Hill, was one of the participants in this year’s Kids Teaching Kids (KTK), a two-day conference held at Melbourne University and the Collingwood Children’s Farm, where over 500 student delegates from Australia shared their knowledge and passion for the environment.

The students delivered a project that focused on reducing consumption of single-use plastics and finding sustainable lunch wraps. After realising how much GLAD Wrap was used every day by students and staff members alike, they worked to find alternatives, settling on a sustainable beeswax-based lunch wrap.

‘The kids loved it, they had lots of fun and inspired others to use less plastic’, said St Justin’s Principal, Mr Patrick Torpey. The conference, sponsored by Melbourne Water, promotes positive wellbeing and raises local and global environmental issues, bringing communities together to solve common challenges, share initiatives and inspire the next generation of leaders.

The school has participated in the conference for the past two years, with students constantly working on projects designed to enhance sustainable living skills and environmental awareness.
