Catholic Education Melbourne is urging the Victorian state government to end the stand-off with the Commonwealth over school funding.

‘The Andrews Government displayed a constructive and positive approach towards Catholic education's successful campaign for a fairer funding system for non-government schools,’ Acting Executive Director Jim Miles said.

‘The Premier and Minister Merlino should show that same spirit in their broader education funding negotiations with the Commonwealth.

‘There are now less than two weeks before classes rise for the year.

‘This is the worst possible time to create uncertainty over when funding will flow for Catholic and other non-government schools for 2019.

‘We want all schools to be properly funded and the Andrews Government should negotiate in good faith and not increase funding uncertainty so late in the year.’
