St John's Regional College, Dandenong, students at the UN State Youth ConferenceSeven young ambassadors from St John’s Regional College, Dandenong, attended the 2017 UN
Youth State Conference, held at Lord Somers Camp. Below are some reflections from the students’ experiences.

'During the conference we took part in many activities. These included workshops relating to global issues, representing a country in debates, listened to and questioned expert panellists and had our voice heard in many discussions on the issues that concerned our youth today.

During this experience, I created many strong and life long bonds with passionate individuals. All of these individuals shared knowledge and determination to make us, the future leaders of our country, bring a huge change into tomorrow’s society.'

'The UN Youth State Conference was one of the best experiences of my life, especially in terms of education. It opened my eyes to the very real issues in our world and made me appreciate the differing perspectives concerning these issues.

One of the most striking things about the camp was realising just how intelligent, passionate and confident those young people were. Everyone was really friendly and the facilitators made sure everyone knew each other by adding in trivia night, movie night and a social party.'

'The UN State Conference was a worthwhile experience. It gave me the opportunity to network with other like-minded students from all over Victoria who had the same passion for social justice and I do.

Participating in various model UN style activities almost convinced me that I was a real-life delegate. I was able to learn so much about global issues and just how integral young people are in shaping the world for the better.'
