Former Mount Saint Joseph Girls’ College, Altona, student and 2016 sports captain, Steph Kelly, is living her dream of playing lacrosse at the highest level. Steph played in the Lacrosse National Championship earlier this month for the victorious Senior Victorian Women’s team, where she was the top scorer.

Steph is currently on a break from her lacrosse scholarship at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, USA.

‘I have been studying and playing division 1 lacrosse in the United States, at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, for almost two years now and I am continuing to love every minute of it.’

Supporting Steph to achieve her goals is Mount Saint Joseph’s sports coordinator, Sue Sofarnos. Sue has mentored Steph since she was a student at the school and was her coach in 2012 for the Under 15 Victorian team. Sue coached Steph to victory in the Senior Victorian Women’s team and has just been named coach of the All Australian lacrosse team.

Sue has had her own illustrious career in women’s lacrosse and has represented Australia many times over the years. She has played in five World Cups and in the World Championship in 1986. She was also the coach of the Australian team when they won the World Championship in 2005.
