Worowa CupOn Tuesday 22 May, Mount Lilydale Mercy College was invited by Worowa Aboriginal College to take part in their Sports Carnival. Hosted on the spiritual land of Coranderrk in Healesville, our students, along with others from various schools, were extended a warm welcome.

The football and netball tournament is held in recognition of Reconciliation Week, with girls from Years 8-10 competing after a Welcome to Country and traditional smoking ceremony.

MLMC remains the school to beat in the netball ranks after tasting success at the second annual Worawa Sports Carnival, hosted by Worawa Aboriginal College in Healesville, on Tuesday 22 May.

MLMC claimed a second successive Naomi Atkinson Memorial Trophy in the netball after an unbeaten run through the six pool games before beating Firbank in the semi-final 10-5 and winning the grand final 13-7 against Shelford.

The MLMC girls’ football team (aka the Goats) took on last year’s winners and rivals Methodist Ladies College first up and, despite a tough effort, the Goats were beaten.

Before the netball finals, the girls received strong advice from Australian Diamonds and Collingwood Magpies Super Netball star Caitlin Thwaites.
