Term 3As we move into the second half of the year, here’s a few of the diverse events and activities that our schools are participating in for Term 3.

Time to Shine 2018 will be staged at the State Theatre, Arts Centre Melbourne on 28 July 2018 with two shows at 2 pm and 7.30 pm. Featuring almost 400 students from over 50 secondary schools, this is a musical celebration to showcase the extraordinary singers, dancers and musicians from our schools. Tickets are on sale now.

National Science Week is on 11–19 August 2018 with the school theme Game Changes and Change Makers. The 88 page teaching resource book is now available from the Australian Science Teachers Association as a free interactive online book and a PDF to download. Inspiration for the theme and resource came from science celebrations in 2018, including the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the International Year of the Reef.

Children’s Book Week will be 18–24 August 2018 with the theme Find your Treasure. During this time schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. Teachers and librarians conduct activities relating to the theme to highlight the importance of reading. Popular activities include children's book character parades and amazing library displays.

The annual World Day of prayer for the Care of Creation on 1 September is a day to reflect on our schools’ efforts in sustainability and environmental education. According to Pope Francis, ‘The annual World Day of prayer for the Care of Creation offers to individual believers and to the community a precious opportunity to renew our personal participation in this vocation as custodians of creation.’
