Nine former and current students and three teachers from St Monica’s College, Epping, will soon be travelling to the Philippines for nine days to visit a school on the island of Negros.

The students from Years 11 and 12 will be visiting a poor community with the Good Samaritan Sisters, who teach a Kinder School of about 60 children aged between four and five years old.

The college community has donated items such as stationery, books and toys, with the Keon Park Jets donating footballs and the Gold Coast Suns donating sunglasses. Students in the Year 9 professional writing class at St Monica’s College have also written each child in the Kinder School a book as a Christmas gift.

College Principal Brian Hanley wished the students well on their travels. ‘This is such an important immersion for our students and alumni who will see a part of the world that is challenged in many ways’, he said.

‘I am sure our marvellous Monicans will bring a little joy and happiness to this community’, he added.
