Profound deafness proved no barrier to Dhruvi Desai becoming joint dux of Aquinas College, Ringwood, and St Mary’s College for the Deaf, with an ATAR of Dhruvi Desai joint dux of Aquinas College and St Mary's College for Hearing Impaired Students99.1, including a perfect study score in Business Management.

Dhruvi worked diligently throughout Year 12, overcoming the challenges of a student with a hearing loss. Dhruvi’s learning was supported through the successful model of delivering education through St Mary’s College for the Deaf, in partnership with Aquinas College. Through her dedication and hard work Dhruvi has achieved dux of both secondary schools.

St Mary’s College for the Deaf offers a highly specialised, inclusive curriculum formulated through Teachers of the Deaf in collaboration with partner school for students in Prep to Year 12 who have a significant hearing loss.

Catholic Education Melbourne Executive Director Stephen Elder said ‘I’m proud of Dhruvi, the teachers and school communities and share their joy,’ Mr Elder said, ‘just as I am proud of all our students who have successfully completed their VCE and the contributions of their teachers and parents.

‘Some say education is a labour of love. In Catholic schools it is more. It’s a mission; a mission to change the world for the better through our young.

‘These results show how we are making a difference.’
