Listen to what the spirit is saying

Australian Catholic Youth Festival image. The Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) will be held in Perth from 8 to 10 December 2019.

The ACYF provides young people with opportunities to deepen their relationship with Jesus, be empowered to be disciples in the world today, and encounter and celebrate the vitality of the Church in Australia. The Melbourne Pilgrimage to the ACYF will enable up to 2,500 young people from the Archdiocese of Melbourne to attend Australia’s largest national gathering for young Catholics. The festival is open to participants from Year 9 to 30-year-olds, plus leaders of any age. Harvest Journeys is the official tour provider for the Melbourne Pilgrimage.

Melbourne Catholic secondary schools are invited to participate in the Melbourne Pilgrimage by selecting a group package for their students and teachers. School groups will coordinate their own leadership, supervision, chaplaincy and formation, allowing them to experience the ACYF as part of the Melbourne Pilgrimage while retaining the duty of care over their students. Groups will receive formation and retreat resources to prepare for the pilgrimage.

School groups will be required to have a minimum of two adult leaders supervising students, one of whom would be the nominated Group Coordinator. Group Coordinators will need to attend briefings to build solidarity within the Melbourne Pilgrimage, which will provide the following additional support for groups:

  • Night Supervisors at each accommodation site where minors are present
  • a Catholic Education Melbourne liaison to support the response to incidents involving minors and oversee the team of Night Supervisors.
