Student accepting award from Archbishop Archbishop Peter A Comensoli.Five students from secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne have become the latest recipients of the prestigious Fr James Wall Bursary.
Year 10 students Heidi Bakker from St Ignatius College Geelong, Drysdale, Charlie Borracci from Sacred Heart College, Newtown, Michael Alexander Lapina from Thomas Carr College, Tarneit, Chelsea Tomada from Catholic Ladies’ College, Eltham, and Patrick Gannon from Christian Brothers’ College, St Kilda East, were each presented with the Fr James Wall Bursary by Archbishop Peter A Comensoli.

The bursary is awarded to students who demonstrate:

  • a high degree of leadership in the school and the community, in particular a visible commitment to be inclusive, cooperative and to make a difference
  • leadership potential in a range of areas, especially in organising and coordinating a range of activities in a self-directed manner
  • an emphasis on helping others and providing service to others, in areas such as coaching, fundraising, environmental protection, hospitality services, assisting people with disabilities, and involvement in parish or local council activities.

The bursary, sponsored by the Catholic Development Fund, provides $4000 to each recipient to assist with school expenses while they undertake VCE at a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Melbourne or the Diocese of Sale.
