Students and teachers in Melbourne’s Catholic schools were reunited as the first phase of the return to classroom teaching began this morning.

Following a student-free day yesterday to prepare learning areas, primary students in Prep, Years 1 and 2, secondary students studying VCE and VCAL, and all students in specialist schools returned to face-to-face learning this morning. Students in all other year levels will continue learning remotely until they return to the classroom on Tuesday 9 June.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, the Hon. James Merlino, recorded a special video message to welcome back our teachers and students, and to thank families for their support in continuing the learning journey during the past weeks.

At St Mary Magdalen’s School, Chadstone, the youngest students settled back into their classrooms this morning. ‘I am very proud of our team here at St Mary Magdalen’s who have done an enormous amount of work to keep our students progressing with their learning and now welcoming them back to the classroom’, said the school’s principal Dr Helen Healy. ‘Our teachers are very aware that some students will need extra support when they return and we will monitor each child’s progress closely.’
