Top Arts17 March 2020

The VCE Season of Excellence continued last week with the opening of Top Arts 2020.

Although the National Gallery of Victoria is temporarily closed until 13 April, a page dedicated to Top Arts 2020 is available on the gallery’s website. From a field of more than 1,700 applications, a selection panel comprising VCAA state reviewers, a VCAA country representative and the NGV’s Top Arts curator assessed students’ works based on conceptual development, technical excellence, aesthetic considerations, awareness of past and contemporary art practices, and individuality and innovation.

Melbourne’s Catholic schools are represented in the online exhibition, with works by Nicholas Burgos (Mazenod College, Mulgrave), Lucinda Campbell (Sacré Coeur, Glen Iris), Jack Hewish (Marcellin College, Bulleen), Monica Jagic (Siena College, Camberwell), Matt McLean (Padua College, Mornington), Juliana Neild (Presentation College Windsor, Windsor), Angelo Ooi (Xavier College, Kew) and Kiara White (Aquinas College, Ringwood).
