St Monica’s College, Epping classroom.St Monica’s College, Epping, was pleased to be the first school to participate online in ‘The Governor in Classrooms Program’.

The program recognises that students are not able to visit Government House in the current environment. As an alternative, students have the opportunity to meet the Governor and Mr Howard virtually, and learn more about the role the Governor plays in our democracy and system of government.

Twenty-five Year 11 and 12 students gathered to meet the Governor online and ask a series of questions about the Governor’s pathway to taking office, the role of the Governor, and her interaction with the Victorian Government and the Queen.

Students at St Monica’s College are encouraged to explore opportunities to speak directly with leaders, and to expand their knowledge of the workings of our state and country.

Principal Brian Hanley was on hand to welcome the Governor. ‘It was indeed an honour to welcome Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria, to St Monica’s College, albeit virtually. This is a wonderful initiative and our students found it very valuable to their studies. We thank the Governor and Mr Howard for their time to meet with our students.’
