science weekDeep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans is the school theme of National Science Week 2020.

The annual celebration is a way for schools and the community to recognise the impact of science on our lives and the way we learn. This year’s school theme embraces the innovative technologies, capabilities and skills needed to achieve economic, environmental and social sustainability of our oceans. It features insights and inquiries into workable solutions that generate healthy oceans, healthy economies and healthy communities.

For Shelley Waldon, Project Officer (Science and Sustainability) at Catholic Education Melbourne, this week shines a spotlight on the great work being done in science in our schools. ‘Science and the process of learning about science help young people to think critically and make meaning of their world’, Shelley explains. ‘A rich science education can help students to become informed global citizens.’

For students and schools looking for ways to extend Science Week, Catholic Education Melbourne’s STEM MAD (Making a Difference) Showcase returns as a digital experience in October. For details on entries, visit the STEM MAD website.
