Role Description/Criteria

Full-time ongoing position located in the Northern Region, Melbourne

Catholic Education Melbourne (CEM) is a dynamic education service provider to 332 Catholic primary, secondary and special schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. More than 450 staff work across the head office in East Melbourne and four regional offices in the North, East, South and West. CEM provides services to schools in areas as diverse as Curriculum, RE, Finance, ICT, Marketing and Communications, Student Wellbeing, Legal, Planning and Industrial Relations. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the position of Learning Consultant, Literacy Sector Professional Learning Support. This is a full-time, ongoing role that is based in our Northern Regional Office.

Working with the Improved Learning Outcomes unit under the direction of the Regional General Manager and Team Leader, Literacy, the Learning Consultant will design and facilitate research based professional learning programs that build teachers and leaders' professional knowledge to improve student learning outcomes. In addition they will provide specialist advice and support to teachers and leaders in the areas of Catholic learning design, assessment and literacy curriculum and work collaboratively within the literacy stream to develop and improve resources for all schools. 

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of sector, state and national developments in curriculum, assessment and reporting as well as the knowledge and capacity to develop and facilitate networks and collectives of schools which impact on student learning. Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with relevant internal and external stakeholders are essential to this position. 

The successful applicants will be required to have Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) accreditation.

Applicants must hold full unrestricted working rights for Australia to be considered for this role.

  1. Demonstrated understanding and application of contemporary learning and teaching practices in literacy curriculum, assessment and reporting
  2. Demonstrated ability to effectively analyse and use data to develop targeted professional support at a system level
  3. Demonstrated ability to collaborate to design and facilitate professional learning for teachers at a sector level which impacts on students
  4. Demonstrated capacity to be flexible and adaptable in managing change
  5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work in a team and capacity to build professional relationships based on trust and integrity
  6. A commitment to the Catholic ethos, the principles of Catholic teaching and to the policies of Catholic Education Melbourne (CEM) and the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria (CECV)
