History:

St Catherine's Primary School was established in 1983 under the principalship of Sr Margaret McKenna, a member of the Sisters of Mercy, as the second school in the parish of St Clare's, Thomastown West.

From its inception, it was seen as a community school and this important feature has continued to be nurtured. Our current enrolment is 152 students with 60% of our families coming from a language background other that English.

Description:

St Catherine's Primary School is situated approximately 15 kilometres north of Melbourne in Lalor West, on 1.3 hectares.

The grounds consist of large grassed and treed areas with small asphalt areas. St Catherine's has attractive landscaped gardens, 2 adventure playgrounds, basketball court and passive play areas.

The main administration building contains the principal's office, main office, staffroom, library and teacher resource centre. There are 5 large classrooms in the original building as well as the newly extended multi-purpose room. There are 2 relocatables as well. All classrooms are air-conditioned and have computers to enhance student's learning.

Features:

St Catherine's has made a commitment to literacy and numeracy learning, with a consistent approach to these two learning areas being implemented from P-6.

Religious Education is also highly valued and taught daily. St Catherine's has a dynamic LOTE - Italian program and places a strong importance on the Thinking Curriculum.

Children with learning difficulties are catered for under individual learning plans in our well-resourced programs.
