History:

Mount Lilydale Mercy College was founded in 1896 when the Sisters of Mercy established a branch-house in the Yarra Valley on the outskirts of Melbourne to provide a Catholic education for children in the area. The College became coeducational in 1975 with the first enrolment of 120 boys. The school now caters for approximately 1440 students from Years 7–12.

Description:

The College endeavours to emphasise cooperation and justice, leading students to play their role in protecting and enhancing human values in the world of the 21st century. These goals are reflected in our Mission Statement which stresses the importance of spirituality, community, and curriculum.

At Mount Lilydale Mercy College, we strive to create a strong sense of community. Students are encouraged to be actively involved in the life of the College, particularly through our extensive co-curricular program that provides many opportunities in areas such as music, drama, sport, public speaking, community service.

Features:

The importance of pastoral care is integral to our College. It has its basis in our Mission Statement which calls for nurturing 'self-esteem by promoting respect for each person's uniqueness, dignity and worth' in a community 'that provides spiritual, emotional, social and intellectual assistance to its members'.

The College offers a diverse curriculum which attempts to cater for the needs of each student and which encourages students to strive to achieve their very best.

Our Year 7 program is designed to assist students during the transition period from primary school. The curriculum program at Year 8 is delivered as core with students having the choice to study either Japanese or Italian. At Years 9 & 10, students undertake core subjects in homeroom groupings and non-core subjects of choice in mixed groupings. To complement the Year 10 program, a small group of students are offered places in the New Horizons Program which is designed to maintain engagement with school while undertaking a vocational program at a TAFE institution each semester. This provides students with an introduction to the learning required to undertake a selected career path. Year 10 students may also access VCE units and VET modules. Students at Years 11 and 12 select from a wide range of VCE and VCAL subjects.

We are proud of the achievements of our past students who have gone from strength to strength as young Catholic men and women of integrity based on the quality of their secondary education. This background of success strengthens the College in meeting the challenges of the new millennium.
